Architectural Overview
The lighthouse structure is an intimidating monument of weathered, imperial ashlar stone, designed by Western Empire engineers to survive both catastrophic typhoons and heavy naval sieges. It sits at the tip of a rugged, rocky finger of land, completely cut off from the mainland except for a narrow, defensible stone ramp that slopes steeply up to the main entrance.
The structure is divided into two major tactical zones: the low, sprawling Oblong Octagonal Fortress at the base, and the colossal Circular Watchtower thrusting upwards into the clouds.
The Low Fortress (3 Stories Above, 2 Basements Below)
The base of the structure is a wide, multi-tiered octagonal bastion featuring deeply recessed, arched windows and fortified bartizans (watch-turrets) anchoring the corners of the battlements.
-
Sub-Level 2 (The Deep Vault): Carved directly out of the subterranean sea rock. This freezing, damp space serves as the secure brig and high-priority evidence locker. Sealed off by iron-reinforced doors, this is where Captain Renault securely locks away sensitive paperwork, encrypted logs, and audit information he has gathered on the Timro Garrison.
-
Sub-Level 1 (The Armory & Provisions): A dry, heavily guarded basement level storing black powder, munitions, rations to survive a six-month siege, and specialized tactical gear for Special Investigator operations.
-
Level 1 (The Guardhouse & Entryway): Accessed via the stone ramp. This level features an iron-reinforced gate, a functional kill-zone foyer, and a bustling barracks for the hand-picked, loyal Timro Marines assigned to protect the Investigator.
-
Level 2 (The Command Scriptorium): The functional headquarters of Captain Marcus Renault. The stone-walled chambers are lined with maps of the Floenry Isles, active investigation boards tracking trade fraud, and a secure writing desk. It is a buttoned-up, meticulously organized space that matches Renault’s rigid personality.
-
Level 3 (The Battery Deck): The roof of the lower fortress. Encircling the base of the main tower is an open-air fighting platform protected by heavy stone crenellations. This deck features heavy naval cannons mounted on rotating, maneuverable wooden carriages. Because of the octagonal design, these cannons can be pivoted to fire in any direction, effortlessly raining fire onto incoming enemy ships or decimating any ground force attempting to charge up the entrance ramp.
The Circular Watchtower (5 Stories)
Jutting directly out from the center of the octagonal fortress, the towering column ascends an additional five stories into the sky, narrowing slightly as it reaches the apex.
-
Tower Levels 1–4 (The Spiral Clamber): Narrow, windowed tiers connected by a continuous stone spiral staircase. These levels serve as secure archer/sniper nests, navigational cartography rooms, and secondary crew quarters. The thick stone walls are punctuated by narrow arrow slits offering a 360-degree view of the Borlon harbor and the open ocean.
-
Tower Level 5 (The Lantern Room & Crow’s Nest): The crown of the structure. Enclosed in a heavy glass-and-iron dome and encircled by a precarious iron-railed observation balcony, the lantern room houses a massive, arcane-focused beacon. By night, it guides Timro warships safely through the jagged reefs; by day, it serves as the ultimate vantage point in Borlon, allowing Renault’s lookouts to spot incoming vessels—or suspicious movements in the Northeast Shipyards—miles before they hit the harbor.
⚠️ DM Tactical Note (Player Facing)
Approach with caution. The stone ramp leading to the entrance offers zero cover, meaning anyone attempting to approach without Captain Renault’s explicit permission is a sitting duck for the Level 3 cannon batteries and the tower snipers. This is arguably the safest, most uncompromised location in all of Borlon—provided you truly trust the man running it.
