Safety Rating: Highly Secure (Protected by the Delver’s Guild & Private Spell-Wards)
The Ghostly Minstrel is a legendary, multi-story stone and timber tavern, inn, and restaurant that serves as the undisputed social epicenter for the adventuring population of Ptolus. Facing directly onto the bustling cobblestones of Delver’s Square, its massive oak doors are a welcome sanctuary from the dynamic, dangerous streets.
For the party, this place is more than just a tavern—it is their primary safe haven. The common room is a high-ceilinged hall of dark wood, roaring stone hearths, and rows of heavy tables where gold is counted, maps are traded, and survival is celebrated. The establishment is famous for its strict rule against open violence; anyone drawing a blade or casting an offensive spell is instantly barred by the staff and targeted by the house’s powerful anti-magic wards. It is the premier rumor mill in the City, where a single evening spent eavesdropping can reveal lost dwarven vaults, changing underground territorial wars, or high-stakes noble bounties.
The Haunting of the Common Room
The establishment earns its name from a genuine, benign supernatural anomaly. On select evenings, a translucent, glowing spectral figure steps out of the ether onto the small wooden stage. Known simply as The Ghostly Minstrel, the spirit plays hauntingly beautiful, ancient melodies on a translucent lute. He never speaks, interacts with guests, or acknowledges applause, but his presence fills the room with a deep sense of historical wonder. Local wizards believe the spirit is a permanent temporal echo of Eraedal’s ancient past, entirely unaffected by modern magic.
Prominent Personalities & Staff
Zade Kenevan
-
Role: Tavern Master & Head Bartender
-
Pathfinder 2e Identity: Level 6 Human Investigator (Empiricism / Underworld Lore)
-
The Party’s Relationship: Zade is a fixated landmark of Midtown. With his bald head, calculating eyes, and spotless white apron, he has a steel-trap memory and can recall the name, face, and favorite drink of anyone who has ever bought a pint at his bar. He acts as the party’s gatekeeper to the local rumor mill. If the party needs to know which adventuring group went down the sewers and didn’t come back, or if a specific merchant is looking to hire reliable muscle, slipping Zade a few extra silver pieces will loose his tongue.
Katherine Herdsman
-
Role: Front Desk Manager & Lodging Housemistress
-
Pathfinder 2e Identity: Level 4 Human Expert (Diplomacy & Society Specialist)
-
The Party’s Relationship: Warm, sharp-witted, and possessing a wealth of reddish-brown hair, Katherine manages the upper-floor lodging suites. She handles room rentals, secures left-behind adventuring gear in the house’s iron vaults, and ensures that the party’s rooms are secure while they are down in the Dungeon. She serves as a grounding, maternal, and fiercely loyal ally to the party, frequently shielding them from annoying noble solicitors or prying City Watch investigators.
”Smitty” (The Iron Chef)
-
Role: Head Chef & Kitchen Tyrant
-
Pathfinder 2e Identity: Level 7 Human Fighter (with an Alchemist dedication specializing in culinary poisons/antidotes)
-
The Party’s Relationship: A gruff, hard-nosed, and battle-scarred old Human with an apron stained by grease and soot. Smitty rules the sprawling basement kitchens with an iron cleaver and a booming voice that can be heard through the floorboards. He handles the massive logistical feat of feeding hundreds of hungry mercenaries daily, churning out thick stews, roasted cave-beasts, and heavily fortified traveling rations.
-
Mechanics/Utility: Smitty has no patience for “soft city folk” or whiny adventurers, but if the party earns his respect (or brings him rare, subterranean spices and monster meat from the deep ruins), he becomes an invaluable asset. Smitty can craft specialized Alchemical Foods and Rations for the party that grant minor item bonuses to Fortitude saves against disease or Survival checks in underground environments.
Player-Facing Services & Vault Interactions
When the party is resting at The Ghostly Minstrel during downtime, they can utilize the following services:
-
Secure Long Rest: Lodging at the Minstrel guarantees a completely uninterrupted long rest. The upper rooms are lined with lead sheeting to completely block low-level divination spying or teleportation intrusions.
-
The Rumor Board: A massive corkboard near the entrance handles job postings from local merchant coalitions, missing persons reports from the Undercity Market, and bounties sponsored by the Council of Coin.
-
The Delver’s Discount: If the party holds official memberships with the Delver’s Guild, Tellith applies a 10% discount to their weekly lodging and meal tabs.
Behind the Scenes: Everyday Magic Legal Matrix
-
Wards of Peace: The Ghostly Minstrel is enchanted with a permanent, high-rank Counterspell ward. Any character attempting to cast a spell with the Attack or Force trait inside the common room triggers an immediate arc of blue lightning that deals non-lethal electricity damage and suppresses the spellcast.
-
Brawling Response: If a non-magical tavern brawl breaks out, Smitty and his mostly dwarven kitchen staff will storm out of the back doors wielding heavy cast-iron skillets and meat tenderizers, utilizing the Subduing weapon trait to instantly pacify the rowdy patrons before the City Watch even has a chance to respond.
