House Nagel

The Bleeding Hearts

House Nagel is a tragic anomaly among the nobility of Ptolus. Historically one of the proudest, oldest, and most influential families on the Council of Coin, the Nagels have recently fallen into severe, near-total financial ruin. Unlike their peers who hoarded wealth or built criminal empires, the Nagels poured the vast majority of their ancestral fortune into altruism—funding public works, supporting underfunded hospitals, and feeding the impoverished citizens of Midtown, the North Market, and the Warrens.

Because of their immense charity, they are deeply loved by the common folk but viewed with absolute contempt by the city’s predatory oligarchy. They are currently locked in a desperate, losing political and economic battle against House Sadar, who is actively using targeted economic embargoes and political extortion to completely bankrupt them. To make matters worse, dark rumors circulate through the high society of the Nobles’ Quarter that the sinister House Vladaam is actively plotting to assassinate the remaining family members to legally seize their ancestral council seat.

  • Estate Location: Located in the southern plateau of the Nobles’ Quarter. The Nagel Estate was once a magnificent, welcoming manor, but it now shows clear, heartbreaking signs of financial decay. The grand gardens are overgrown, the paint is peeling from the columns, and the family has been forced to sell off most of their heirloom artwork and tapestries just to afford food and minimal upkeep.

Prominent Family Members (Public Knowledge)

Mistress Fransin Nagel

  • Status: Matriarch & Voice of the House

  • Pathfinder 2e Concept: Level 11 Human Cleric (Cloistered Cleric of Sarenrae or Erastil)

  • Description: A proud, deeply dignified woman who refuses to break beneath the weight of her family’s impending ruin. Fransin sits on the Council of Coin as a lone voice of conscience, fiercely fighting for the rights of the poor and opposing exploitative taxes. Despite her poverty, she commands a powerful moral authority that makes her political enemies hesitate to strike her down openly in the council chambers.

Quinn Nagel

  • Status: Eldest Son & Protector of the Estate

  • Pathfinder 2e Concept: Level 8 Human Champion (Paladin or Redeemer cause)

  • Description: The primary protector of the family. Quinn is a deeply honorable young man who divides his time between guarding his mother on her rare trips outside the estate and volunteering at local temples. He is acutely aware of the targets on his family’s backs, and he spends his nights walking the perimeter of their decaying manor, sword in hand, preparing for the Vladaam assassins he knows are coming.

PF2e Mechanical Identity for Vault Tagging

Behind the GM screen, use these Pathfinder 2e baselines to flavor House Nagel family retainers, remaining loyal guards, and local allies:

  • Ancestry: Predominantly Human, though they have strong ties to Nephilim (Aasimar heritages) who share their innate drive toward benevolence and justice.

  • Class Focus: Champions (Paladin or Redeemer), Clerics (heavily favoring deities of healing, sun, and community like Sarenrae or Erastil), and Bards (Enigma or Lore muses dedicated to preserving historical truth).

  • Signature Magic: Their remaining spellcasters focus heavily on the Healing and Positive/Vitality traits. Spells like heal, restoration, spirit shield, and sanctuary define their defensive, protective magic.

  • Common Associations: They maintain incredibly deep, mutual alliances with the Brotherhood of Redemption and the benevolent temples of the Temple District. They are the bitter targets of House Sadar and House Vladaam, while the common citizens and independent delvers of Midtown look upon them with immense respect and protectiveness.
